Starting Up in Card Making
January 9th, 2010 by admin
I’ve been meaning for ages to write down how I started up in the card making business as it is a question I am constantly asked through my website www.liz-craft.co.uk. Well I had been working for a well known ceramic manufacturer for many years and through my activities there I tended to develop an eye for design and in general became more creative than I was during my school years.
I then had the chance of taking voluntary redundancy and because it was a good deal I was able to think about setting up my own business, which is something I’ve always fancied doing. Around about this time I was into a certain shopping channel which regularly featured craft hours where craft products would be sold on the TV, but also the demonstrator would also impart many tips and tricks associated with the product. These items tended to be quite expensive for someone starting out in card making as the quantities you had to purchase were large and when I tried to buy them in local Art & Craft stores, I just found them impossible to find.
It then dawned on me to start up a business supplying mainly card making supplies, but rather than open a shop, why not make it an online business, that way way we could send our craft supplies all over the country as well as abroad. It has taken quite a few years to establish the business, but now things have settled down quite nicely and we have a band of regular customers who shop with us for their card making and craft supplies.
If you ask me if I would do the same thing again if I had the chance, then I’d say that I probably would as I will always need something to satisfy my creative needs as well as an activity that I can gain a sense of achievement from.
