MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. It is an industry standard protocol that enables electronic musical instrument such as keyboard, controller, computer and other electronic equipment to communicate, control and synchronize with each other. MIDI is used a lot as a Resource for Music Education. We can easily understand what is MIDI for example we want to share some information with other people, but they all speak different languages. Consider a person who can only speak English, one can only speak French etc. now an interface would translate that information in to a code and code will return it in their own language. Above example makes a thing very clear that MIDI does not allows to transmit signals or media, it transmits event messages such as the pitch and the intensity of musical notes to play. A MIDI file is a code no sound waves are recorded in the file. The code is read by a receiving device and device interprets the code. MIDI allows any MIDI capable instrument to communicate with any other MIDI capable instrument or computer. This device can communicate through cable and cable conveys the code.In present scenario there are number of instruments available in market which supports MIDI like guitar, drum etc but electronic key board is most commonly associated with MIDI because electronic key board is most primitive instrument which is capable of MIDI. If someone uses a MIDI enabled keyboard then when he/she hits the key, the sound produce is automatically turned into a code by MIDI. The code contain information like what amount of pressure is executed, interval between keys, pitch changes while a key is pressed etc. this information is transferred to other instrument and they all play the same song or music.MIDI has the unique capability to transmit code and devices play this code into their own language. It helps musician to give live performances. They can use number of instruments at the same time and final result is a great performance.
