Learning the Basics of Piano Tuning

June 30th, 2010 by admin

If you are a musician or are in any way related to music then you would know how important it is to tune the instruments regularly. Tuning of the instruments can help to produce the right pitch. The same rule applies for the piano as well. If you have a piano then it is important that you get it tuned regularly or else you may not get the right pitch.

When did you get your piano tuned the last time? Has it been more than six months, or more than a year? You will be surprised to know that piano tuning is actually a very important aspect when it comes to maintaining the quality of sound.

The piano manufacturers recommend the piano players to tune it at least twice every year. The main reason behind this is that a piano has the tendency to slip out of tune very easily. Being a member of the stringed instrument family, you need to keep it tuned regularly just like other instruments of the family which includes guitar, harp, and violin.

A piano consists of strings that are of varying lengths. Each of these strings is properly stretched between pegs. The tone produced from a piano highly depends on the length and the tautness of the strings.

To keep your piano in perfect shape and pitch, you must ensure that you get it tuned regularly. The pianos that are used in concerts and bands may need to be tuned more often than the ones that are kept at home for practice.

You can learn more about musical instruments in these Music Lesson Plans and in many good Music Theory Books.
