How do wedding photographers store images

March 3rd, 2010 by admin

Going into business for yourself takes time, patience and money too.  If you want your business to be a success, it will help to have professional tools and equipment to do the best job possible.  I recently researched some new camera and computer equipment to start my career as a corporate photographer.  I found some interesting information on various sites to help solve some basic problems storing image files.

My new computer has lots of software which I’ve never used before.  The biggest reason I bought it was to keep my photographs in order and save them for my clients and my own archive.  There are a few programs available for archiving photos but I had to find the easiest and best way.  I read in an article that wedding photographers back up their photos on CD and an external hard drive.  This seemed like extra work but after reading more on the subject, it made sense.  Now I’ll have a low budget copy in the form of a CD and easy access to photos with the hard drive.

All of my photos are backed up and I can transfer them to any new technology that comes out in the future.  The CDs can hold many files, they are pretty indestructible and easy to stack and store.  A family friend who studies wedding photojournalism  told me the same thing.  She has mega memory of hard drive space and keeps a disk for each client at a different location.  This helps preserve them in the event of an emergency or if the home is damaged by fire, it solves my first problem too.
